This project is a continuation and expansion to provide healthy food parcels for thousands of Palestinian children and families in Gaza and Refugee Camps in Lebanon.

🎯 Project Goals

Support Palestinian children to grow up healthy

Provide nutritious food parcels to families who are unable to afford healthy food due to political and economic crises.

Support Women

We purchase the food products they grow and produce from small businesses that are owned by women-led income-generation projects and cooperatives.

Promote Food Security

This project aims to promote food security in Gaza and refugee camps in Lebanon through the distribution of emergency and nutritional food parcels to families in need.

📦 4 Ways We Distribute These Food Parcels

The contents will vary according to the type of food parcel and the season. MECA’s Nutrition Coordinator, Wafaa El-Derawi, who is a trained nutritionist based in Gaza will prepare the contents for each distribution to ensure the food parcels provide healthy, well-balanced diets for the families for 1 month.

1. Ramadan Food Parcels will be distributed during Ramadan to those in need. Distribution will take place through various organizations that will be working as our on-ground partners. Through this act of giving, we can strengthen our communities and fulfill our obligation to help those less fortunate.
2. Emergency food parcels to fight hunger and food insecurity for refugees in Lebanon where they are experiencing an economic crisis that has pushed 93% of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon into poverty. These food parcels will provide staples along with fresh produce from local farmers.
3. Nutritional food parcels for families in Gaza whose children are moderately or severely malnourished. These food parcels are specially designed to meet the children’s nutritional needs with specialty items such as oatmeal and fortified cereals in addition to staples for the whole family. Parents receive guidance on how to best prepare food for their children when they receive the food parcel.
4. Regularly scheduled food parcels for families in Gaza who are living in poverty due to the occupation and siege. These food parcels provide staples along with fresh produce and products from women’s cooperatives and are delivered quarterly to provide food security for the family throughout the year.

🧕🏽 This Project Supports 10 Women Entrepreneurs

Through a partnership with the Gaza Urban and Peri-Urban Agricultural Project, MECA has supported 53 small income-generation projects and cooperatives in the sectors of farming and food production that are led by women in Gaza in the past year. The project provides both material support for their projects and technical support and training to help with quality control, marketing, and licensing.

With each food parcel distribution, we purchase from 10 women-led projects and each project provides income to 41 women. This unique way of sourcing food products financially supports hundreds of families in Gaza and supports women’s socio-economic empowerment.
